Twelve Hours in a Massachusetts Church

Today, Taunton, Massachusetts, isn’t much more than a bunch of nearly empty churches huddled along crumbling streets. But one day a few years ago, in a bland parish center on a bland street in my bland hometown, a twelve-hour religious retreat transformed my relationship with the most honest teacher I’ve ever had.

Robert Scaramuccia is from Taunton, Massachusetts, which has the best fast food this side of the Mason-Dixon Line. He once spent an entire summer cataloguing old Taunton hats, which is a lot less exciting than it sounds. Send him an email at robert.scaramuccia@yale.edu.
