The FAA is investigating a near-miss incident involving two aircraft at Boston Logan International Airport. The event occurred on intersecting runways, prompting safety reviews. Details remain unclear, but the investigation highlights ongoing safety concerns at busy airports.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating a near-miss incident at Boston Logan International Airport involving two aircraft on intersecting runways. The event occurred recently and has prompted safety reviews, but specific details about what happened are still emerging. This investigation is significant because it highlights ongoing safety concerns at one of the nation’s busiest airports.
According to FAA officials, the incident involved two commercial aircraft that came into dangerously close proximity while operating on intersecting runways at Boston Logan. The FAA confirmed that the event took place within the last few days and is now under review to determine the cause and whether safety protocols were followed.
Sources familiar with the investigation indicate that both aircraft were cleared for takeoff or landing, but the exact sequence of events leading to the near-miss remains under scrutiny. The FAA has not yet released specific details about the aircraft types, flight numbers, or the precise timing of the incident.
Potential Safety Risks at Major U.S. Airports
This investigation underscores the ongoing challenges in managing traffic at busy airports like Boston Logan, which handles over 40 million passengers annually. Incidents involving intersecting runways can lead to catastrophic accidents if not properly managed. The FAA’s review aims to identify whether procedural lapses or communication failures contributed to this event, emphasizing the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent future occurrences.

Recent Safety Incidents at Major Airports Raise Concerns
Boston Logan International Airport has experienced increased air traffic, which can strain existing safety measures. Previous incidents at other airports have prompted reviews of runway procedures, especially at intersections where aircraft paths cross. The FAA has been working to improve runway safety, but close calls like this reveal that risks persist, particularly during peak traffic hours or adverse weather conditions.
This incident at Logan follows a series of safety reviews prompted by recent near-misses nationwide, highlighting the ongoing need for technological and procedural improvements in air traffic control systems.
